How do I get started?

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Getting started with Teramind is a straightforward process that can be completed in just a few steps. This guide will walk you through the initial setup, from choosing a deployment model to viewing your first set of data.

Deployment Time

For a self-serve Cloud deployment, setting up the Teramind server and dashboard typically takes between 10 and 30 minutes. On-Premises or Private Cloud deployments generally require about an hour.

Once the server is ready, the Endpoint Agent installation takes only a few minutes and can be deployed remotely in batch mode. We provide comprehensive documentation, step-by-step instructions, and how-to guides to assist you. Technical support is also available via live chat. This self-serve option is ideal for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

For medium to large enterprises, we offer a personalized, "white-glove" deployment and onboarding service featuring a dedicated customer success team. This process typically spans 1–4 weeks and includes:

  1. Requirements gathering: (1 week)

  2. Environment setup and deployment: (2 sessions, 1 week)

  3. Endpoint setup and testing: (2 sessions, 1 week)

  4. Admin and Analyst training: (2–3 sessions, 3 days)

  5. Proof of Value (POV) evaluation: (1 week)

Throughout this implementation, Teramind assigns an Account Executive, Solution Engineer and a Customer Success Manager to your account. We require a technical and commercial counterpart from your organization to ensure a smooth rollout.

Getting Started

Getting started with Teramind involves the following four steps:

Step 1: Sign up for a Trial

While Teramind does not offer a permanent free version, you can explore the full platform through a free trial. This trial typically lasts for 7 days on the Cloud deployment and 14 days for On-Premise or Private Cloud environments.

To begin, visit the Teramind Trial Page. Follow the instructions on that page to start your trial. You will not need any credit card numbers or payment information to start the trial.

Cloud customers can begin their trial immediately. If you choose an On-Premises deployment, an onboarding specialist will get back to you as soon as possible to complete your trial signup and assist with the deployment. Please refer to this article.

Step 2 [Optional]: Deploy the Server (On-Premises / Private Cloud)

Teramind NextGen isn't yet available for On-Premises/Private Cloud deployments. The instructions below applies to Teramind Legacy only.

Note: Skip this step if you are using Teramind Cloud, as the server is fully managed for you.

If you are using a self-hosted model, these guides will help you deploy and configure your Teramind server:

Step 3: Install the Agent

Install the Teramind Agent on your target computers or invite employees to install it themselves. While this is the only action required on the user's end, administrators can also perform remote "silent" installations that require no user interaction.

Step 4: Start Using Teramind!

As soon as the Agent is installed, data will begin appearing on your Dashboard. Because every organization has unique requirements, we do not enforce a standard workflow. However, we recommend the following initial steps:

  1. Add Employees and Computers: Identify the users you wish to monitor (required if using the Revealed Agent).

  2. Organize Departments: Set up groups to streamline monitoring profiles and department-based reporting.

  3. Adjust Monitoring Profiles: Configure the platform to meet your privacy and operational needs (e.g., toggling video capture or excluding specific apps/websites).

  4. Customize Policies and Rules: Modify any sample policies and rules that came with the package according to your need. If you don't need a rule, just turn it off or delete it. You can learn more about policies and rules on our Rules Guide. We also have many sample rules included with the Rules Guide.

  5. Create Productivity Profiles: Define which activities are productive or unproductive to ensure accurate results in your productivity reports.

  6. Configure Account Types and Access Permissions: Adjust account types or administrative roles for your team as needed.
