Overview
Most settings in Teramind On-Premises apply as soon as you save them on the dashboard. A few settings briefly restart specific Teramind services so the change can take effect. No dashboard setting restarts the entire Teramind server.
Use this article to identify those settings, plan changes during a maintenance window if needed, and understand what to expect after saving.
Settings That Restart Specific Services
Saving any of the following settings restarts only the services listed. All other services keep running.
Setting | Where to Find It | Impact |
Maximum daily alerts count, User notification alert threshold, Log alert threshold | Restarts the Agent communication service (
Management interface port / Load balancer port | Restarts the web and Agent communication services (
SSL keys | Restarts the web and Agent communication services (
License key | Restarts the Agent communication service ( |
Settings That Apply Without a Restart
The following settings apply as soon as you save them, without restarting any service. Common examples include:
Hostname: Configurations > Settings > Security > Hostname. The new hostname is sent to connected dashboards immediately.
Server Security Settings: Enable multi-node deployment, Enable SSH access, and Allow new nodes under Configurations > Settings > Server > Security settings. These update the server's firewall rules only.
Email: SMTP server and sender settings under Configurations > Settings > SMTP.
Authentication: Sign-in, 2FA, password, SSO, and SAML settings under Configurations > Settings > Authentication.
Session Timeout: Session storage and cookie expiration settings under Configurations > Settings > Security > Sessions.
Locale: Timezone, language, NTP, and currency settings under Configurations > Settings > Locale.
OCR and Agent Settings: OCR settings under Configurations > Settings > OCR and Agent settings under Configurations > Settings > Agents.
Alert Notifications: Custom Alert Template, Daily Digest Email Alerts, and Exceeding License Alerts under Configurations > Settings > Alerts.
Other Alerts Settings: All other settings under Configurations > Settings > Alerts except the three alert threshold fields listed above.
What to Do After Saving a Setting That Restarts Services
Wait a short time for the affected services to restart.
Confirm the dashboard is accessible again.
Re-open the relevant settings page and verify the new values were saved.
Check System > System Health for any issues.
If you changed the server ports or SSL keys, confirm that Agents are still reporting normally.
Tips: If uptime is important for your environment, schedule these changes during a maintenance window to reduce user impact.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know a restart is happening?
If you save a server port or SSL key change, the dashboard may be briefly unavailable while the web service restarts. Access returns automatically when the service is back online. Alert threshold and license changes restart only the Agent communication service, so the dashboard stays available.
Does this apply to Teramind Cloud?
No. This behavior applies to Teramind On-Premises/Private Cloud deployments.
Can I avoid the restart?
No. These settings need the affected services to restart so the new values take effect. To limit the impact, schedule the change during a maintenance window.
