How to find / change your hardware ID (HWID)

Updated this week

Finding the Hardware ID

The Hardware ID is located in the System > Deployment screen, under the About your deployment section:

Changing the Hardware ID

You cannot manually change the hardware ID. It's a unique fingerprint that Teramind uses to bind your license to a specific server. It is generated automatically based on the server’s hardware/virtual machine characteristics and cannot be edited from the dashboard or configuration files.

However, the hardware ID will change automatically if you:

  • Create/move Teramind to a different server or virtual machine, or

  • Make certain major hardware changes on the existing server.

When this happens, your existing license will no longer match the new hardware ID and you may see license or activation errors. In that case:

  1. Log in to the Teramind Dashboard on the new server.

  2. Go to the System > Deployment screen and copy the new Hardware ID.

  3. Contact your Customer Support Representative or email to [email protected] to receive a new license key tied to the new hardware ID.

  4. Apply the new license key in the dashboard.

In summary, you don’t change the hardware ID itself, you update the license so it matches the new hardware ID.
