Issue
The "over the licensed amount" message indicates you have exceeded your current license allotment for activated users (users who have their monitoring turned on).
This often occurs due to the following licensing requirements:
Key Licensing Scenarios
These per-user licensing rules applies to local user profiles:
Stealth Agent: The Stealth Agent will create a new employee account for each unique logged-on user, and each account must be licensed separately.
Multiple Users on a Single Computer: When a single physical computer is shared by multiple individuals, each person requires a separate license only if they log in using their own unique operating system user profile. If multiple individuals share the exact same credential/user account, only one license is consumed.
Terminal Server / RDS Environment: Each logged-in user in a Terminal Server, Remote Desktop Services (RDS), Citrix, etc. environments require a separate license.
Active Directory Exception
Active Directory user profiles are tracked by the User Principal Name (UPN). This means a domain user account can log into multiple domain-joined computers, and the Agent will track those sessions as a single employee and consume only one license.
Solution
Prevent future overages by turning on the Exceeding license alerts located in the Configurations > Settings > Alerts screen.
Risk of Floating License Over Utilization
Teramind allows you to add more employees than your license total, granting you the flexibility to "float" users by toggling monitoring on or off without deleting their profile. However, frequent reliance on this feature creates critical data and security gaps because you miss activity and policy enforcement during unmonitored periods. To ensure continuous visibility, consistent security, and a robust compliance posture, get more licenses instead of routinely using the floating capacity.
