This article explains how to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) by yourself from your profile (User Menu > My Profile > Authentication tab).
To learn how to set up 2FA from the login screen, see this article instead.
Introduction
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Teramind account. You can set it up yourself at any time from your profile. Teramind supports two methods: an authenticator app (recommended) and email verification.
Enabling 2FA via Authenticator App
1. Click the User Menu (your avatar/profile image) at the top-right corner of your Teramind Dashboard.
2. Select My Profile from the menu.
3. Open the Authentication tab.
4. Under 2-factor authentication via authenticator app, click Enable.
5. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app on your device, such as Authy or Google Authenticator. If you can't scan the code, click Enter key manually to type the key into your app instead.
6. Enter the 6-digit code shown in your authenticator app.
7. Confirm the change with your current password.
8. Click Continue.
9. Save your recovery code. This code lets you regain access to your account if you lose your phone. Click Copy and store it somewhere safe.
10. Check the I acknowledge that I have saved the recovery code box.
11. Click Done. The 2-factor authentication via authenticator app status will change to Enabled. From your next login, you'll be asked for a code from the app after entering your password.
Enabling 2FA via Email
This option is available only if an administrator has enabled Allow 2FA codes via email under Configurations > Settings > Authentication.
1. Click the User Menu (your avatar/profile image) at the top-right corner of your Teramind Dashboard.
2. Select My Profile from the menu.
3. Open the Authentication tab.
4. Under 2-factor authentication via Email, click Enable.
5. A single-use code is sent to your email address. The email looks like this:
Open the email from Teramind Customer Center with the subject "Your single-use code". Copy the code from the email and enter it in the Validation code field on the dashboard. If the code doesn't arrive or expires, click Resend.
6. Confirm the change with your current password.
7. Click Continue. The 2-factor authentication via Email status will change to Enabled. From your next login, a one-time code will be emailed to you after you enter your password.
Disabling 2FA
1. Click the User Menu (your avatar/profile image) at the top-right corner of your Teramind Dashboard.
2. Click My Profile.
3. Select the Authentication tab.
4. Click Disable next to the factor you want to turn off. Confirm with your current password.
Disabling the authenticator app also removes its recovery code. If you or an administrator re-enable it later, you will need to complete the full setup process again and generate a new recovery code.
