'Teramind Agent Removal Failed' error during Agent uninstallation

Agent Remover shows the error message: ‘Teramind Agent Removal Failed’

Updated over a week ago

When using the Teramind Agent Removal Tool, you may encounter an error message stating that the removal process has failed. This typically happens when certain system requirements are not met or when advanced security protections are active.

Possible Causes

  1. Missing Removal Password: The most common cause is attempting to uninstall a Protected Agent without providing the required uninstall password.

  2. Insufficient Permissions: The tool was not run with administrative privileges.

  3. Antivirus/EDR Interference: Security software on the machine may be blocking the removal tool from accessing Agent files.

  4. Missing Dependencies: The machine may not have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or higher installed, which is required for the tool to function.

Solutions

  1. If the Agent was installed with removal protection, you must include the password in the command line. For example:

    teramind-remover.exe /PASSWORD=your_password

You can find the password under the Stealth agent protection section in the Configurations > Settings > Security screen.

  2. Ensure you are right-clicking the removal tool and selecting Run as Administrator, or executing it from an elevated command prompt. Administrative access is required to stop Agent services and remove system files.

  3. If your security software blocks the tool, add the following folder to your antivirus exclusion list: %TEMP%/remover. Alternatively, temporarily disable the antivirus during the uninstallation process if the exclusion does not work.

  4. The Teramind Remover requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or higher. If it is missing, download and install it from the official Microsoft website, then run the remover tool again.
