The update procedure is applicable to On-Premises and Private Cloud (AWS, Azure, etc.) deployments only. Cloud deployments are automatically updated.
The BI Classification package powers the dashboards and drives the classification definitions used in productivity profiles to batch-classify apps and sites. Keeping it up to date ensures you have the latest classifications across both features.
Follow the steps below to update your BI Classification.
1. Prerequisites & Storage
Before starting, confirm your server has sufficient disk space.
The BI Classification package requires up to 5 GB of free disk space, plus approximately 350 MB per 1 million unique URLs classified in your environment over time.
During the update, you will need 2× the current package size for temporary backups. For example, if your existing Teracat database is 4 GB and you have 6 million additional classified URLs (~2 GB), you will need approximately (4 + 2) × 2 = 12 GB of free disk space to complete the update.
Refer to the Storage Requirements section of the On-Premises Deployment Guide to verify your environment meets these specifications before proceeding.
The update has known issues on servers running Debian 9 or RHEL 7 (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7). If your server uses either of these operating systems, contact Teramind Support for a required workaround before deploying the update.
2. Download the Update Package
Download the latest BI Classification package from the Self-hosted portal:
1. Go to https://www.teramind.co/portal/ and log in.
2. Click the Download tab at the top of the page.
3. Under the Teramind Classification Update section, click the download button.
The downloaded file will be named in a format similar to update.bibase.20260608.66.tmu.
3. Update the BI Classification
Apply the downloaded package through your Teramind Dashboard:
1. Select My Account from the main menu and scroll to the Software section.
2. Click the Select update file button and then select the .tmu file you downloaded in Step 2 above.
4. Click Update Teramind.
Disabling the BI Classification
We recommend keeping BI Classification enabled. It is a core component of how Teramind categorizes app and web activity and powers both the BI Reports and Productivity Profiles. Updates are designed to be fast and low-effort.
If you run into trouble during the update, our Support Team can walk you through it. If you still want to disable BI Classification, please contact us rather than modifying the configuration directly. This ensures the change is applied correctly for your server version and can be re-enabled cleanly if needed.
