Introducing the Teramind Standard Agent for Windows
We are excited to announce the release of the Teramind Standard Agent for Windows - designed to enhance transparency and security for all new Teramind Cloud trials. This Agent provides the same robust monitoring and policy enforcement features as the Stealth Agent but introduces a mandatory user acknowledgement step during the initial setup.
Core Functionality
Visible Installation: Unlike the Stealth Agent, the Standard Agent displays a visible popup during installation.
User Acknowledgement: The user must clearly see and acknowledge the installation before it can proceed.
Background Operation: Once the initial installation is done, the Agent runs in stealth in the background, identical to the Stealth Agent.
Seamless Updates: Subsequent updates to the Agent will not trigger the popup notice.
Why This Change?
This release is a critical component of Teramind's broader platform security initiative. By requiring a visible acknowledgement, Teramind aims to prevent threat actors from abusing silent installation capabilities to deploy software on personal devices without a user’s knowledge. Here are the key changes:
New Trials: All new trial accounts can only download the Standard Agent or the Revealed Agent. Stealth Agent is not available during trials.
Existing Paid Customers: Existing paid customers retain their current Stealth Agent access with no changes.
How to Download and Install the Standard Agent
You can download the Standard Agent from the Download Teramind Agent screen (System > Download Agent menu):
Select the Standard Agent tab and download the Windows installer for your platform.
To install, either double-click the downloaded .msi file or run the following command from an elevated Command prompt (Run as administrator):
msiexec /i <path-to-teramind-agent.msi>
The Install Teramind Agent popup will appear:
Click the Begin Installation button to start the setup.
Technical Limitations & Important Notes
Cloud Trials Only: The Standard Agent is available for Cloud trials.
No Silent Deployment: Remote deployment via GPO, SCCM/SCOM, scripts, MDM tools, etc. is forbidden.
Locked Filename: The installer enforces a fixed filename structure to prevent attackers from disguising the file. If renamed, the installer will not function.
No Installation Parameters: Custom installation parameters are forbidden.
